Of all the agents that broke out this year, Hermes is the one I find most genuinely interesting. Nous Research built something real: an MIT-licensed, self-hosted agent with a learning loop — it creates skills from experience, improves them with use, and builds a model of you across sessions. The launch numbers (top of OpenRouter, millions of views, a reported billion-plus valuation conversation) reflect genuine substance, not just hype.

So this comparison isn't "good vs. bad." It's personal vs. organizational — two different answers to two different questions.
